About Us
Ream Construction was started by Terry and Theresa Ream in 1981 out of their home in Seaside. Terry had been working with his father on construction projects on the Monterey Peninsula since 1973, when he decided to start his own company and pursue his own contractor’s license.
For the first decade of the business, Ream Construction worked on primarily building and remodeling projects for low income housing through the County of Monterey. By the early 1990s, change was upon Ream Construction. Terry and Theresa expanded their construction services to include fire and water damage restoration, and also bought their first commercial building in Sand City for the company’s new home.
With the addition of the new division, Ream Construction became Ream Construction & Disaster Cleaning. The disaster division flourished and grew consistently over the next decade. In 2003, after again evolving and adding asbestos and lead abatement services, the restoration division officially split from Ream Construction & Disaster Cleaning to become Disaster Kleenup Specialists Monterey Bay. Both companies remained under the ownership of Terry and Theresa, and the construction division went back to its original namesake, Ream Construction. The Monterey Peninsula is a tight-knit community, and to this day many people around town still associate Ream Construction with disasters.
Today, Ream Construction and Disaster Kleenup Specialists operate out of the same building in Sand City, and utilize their close proximity to serve their clients with greater efficiency. While Ream Construction maintains a strong competency in reconstruction and repairs following water or fire damages, they have also developed a team of expert carpenters and craftsmen for the company’s remodeling, new construction, and addition projects.
The "green" movement has gained a lot of momentum in the
construction industry, and Ream Construction has taken steps to stay
current with this evolution. Just recently, Terry earned the
Green
Risk Professional certification from Vale Training Solutions.
This certification shows that Terry has an in-depth understanding of
green building and green products. GRP professionals
can interpret fundamental Leadership in Energy and
Environmental
Design (LEED) criteria and standards, review insurance policy
coverage for unique green risks issues, and provide expertise when
buildings are insured with 'upgrade to green' endorsements where
restoration/repairs include green measures to replace damaged green
products or traditional products. For customers looking for
sustainable and eco-conscious alternatives for their remodeling or
building projects, Ream Construction can help!
Effective April 22, 2010 the United States Environmental Protection
Agency's Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule took effect.
The RRP is a set of guidelines that contractors must adhere to when
working on buildings built before 1978, that is occupied by a child
or a woman that is pregnant. The rule also pertains to
schools, hospitals, churches, and childcare facilities.
Ultimately, the RRP rule is aimed at protecting against lead-based
paint hazards associated with renovation, repair, and painting
activities. Ream Construction is a Lead-Safe Certified
Firm and in full compliance with this law. For more
information on RRP, visit the
EPA's website.
Terry, Theresa, and their team at Ream Construction have a broad history and a unique perspective on the construction industry in Monterey County. If you are looking for a builder with a solid reputation, a long history, and a bright future, then look no further than Ream Construction!
